How does it work?
Step In, Step Out. It’s That Simple.
The Bythlon pedal system uses a unique interlocking design – think of it like Lego blocks. When you step down, the cleat seamlessly slots into the pedal for a secure, form-fitting connection. No clips, no locking mechanisms. When you want to stop, simply lift your foot straight up and out.

FAQs
No. There are no magnetics, no clips, no locks. We use a form fitting connection to keep the cleat plate engaged with the pedal. The cleat plate has protruding arc-shaped cleats that fit into the pedal body’s matching recesses. The arc shape helps you by guiding the cleat into position when stepping in. Once stepped in, the cleats are engaged with the pedal and secure you in the horizontal pane. You can’t slip off the pedal.. Most importantly, the Bythlon system never locks you in vertically, so you can step out at any time. Bythlon combines the performance aspect of using cycle shoes with the safety of a flat pedal, you will never get stuck.
The Bythlon system does not lock you to the bike, hence you will not need to twist to unlock, you simply step out of the pedal. The connection with the system is made whilst in motion. You start by aligning the cleat into the pedal shape, then whilst pedalling, and whilst climbing even the steepest of hills, your feet will stay engaged until such time when you need to slow to a stop.
The pedal body is made of a lightweight polyamide (PA) glass fiber compound. The axle is made of durable Chromium Molybdenum (Cr-Mo) Steel. The axle system is using a bushing and a bearing. The cleat plate is made of two materials: The cleat plate body is made of fiberglass and the tips of the cleats are Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) to prevent sliding on smooth surfaces.
The Bythlon system works with every road bike shoe that has the standard three threaded holes in the soles that work with Shimano SPD-L, Look, Keo and others. Bike shoes are generally divided into two groups. One is for road bikes and has a triangle configuration of three threaded holes that are used to mount the cleat on the sole. The cleat protrudes the sole. The other one is made for mountain bikes and has two recessed threaded holes. A mountain-bike cleat can be mounted recessed, which makes it a bit easier to walk.
Yes, we recommend ordering additional sets of cleats not only for extra bike shoes but as well to replace cleats that may wear over time eventually. Bythlon cleats are made through a patented two material production process with exceptionally durable materials for the cleats’ top but as is the same for every cleat, they will wear and tear, especially from walking on hard ground.
Due to form-fitting technology, you are connected to your bike whilst riding. This means you can take on climbs without your cleat disengaging from the pedal. When you wish to stop, you simply step out of the pedal, meaning no twist action is required to unclip.
The clipless pedal designed for real cyclists - not just fearless ones.
Most clipless pedals weren’t designed with you in mind.
They demand precise angles, perfect timing, and confidence at every junction. Which is why so many cyclists stay on flat pedals, not because they lack ability, but because the risk isn’t worth it.
Bythlon works differently.
Keep riding. Without compromise.
Traditional clipless systems demand ankle twist, precise foot angles, and fast reactions. That worked perfectly, until it didn’t.
Over time, flexibility changes. Reactions slow. And something that used to feel second nature becomes less reliable.
For many riders, the choice feels limited,
keep fighting your current setup, or switch to flat pedals.
There’s a third option.
Bythlon adapts to how your body moves now, not how it moved at 35.
Pedal without the twist. Recover without the risk.
Standard clipless pedals require a lateral ankle twist to release, exactly the movement your physio told you to avoid.
Switching to flat pedals means losing the efficiency and control your rehabilitation depends on.
Bythlon removes that compromise.
- No lateral twist
- No rotational stress
- No unnecessary strain on joints

Purchased and had a very quick delivery – I have never ever cleated in before as to anxious- so fixed pedals on easy and the cleats onto new road shoes and off I went for a 23 mile practice ride – absolutely love these cleat/pedal system easy in and out ,slight magnetic pull didn’t take too long to get used to them. Would highly recommend.

I started cycling in London for commuting – serious cyclists said you’ll need cleats, as the next logical progression. I tried SPDs and promptly fell over with wrong foot released at the traffic lights. The next incident gave me a broken elbow. So that was the end of that – until I saw Bythlon. The power of cleats but able to get out without thinking about it – What a game changer! The pedals ooze quality, beautifully machined and sturdy. If there are any other cyclists like me whose brain does not seem to engage in time with unclipping then these are perfect.

I have had the pedals for a few days and used them for about 50 miles with a mixture of off road and road use. I think they are absolutely brilliant so much better climbing than flats and your feet don’t come off the pedals on rough terrain, yet so easy to pull out of when things go awry !! Would never go back to clipless.

I’ve been riding with the pedals for about a week and I just love them. They keep your feet in place, but you are not locked in when you need to stop quickly. I have been looking for clipless pedals like this and I’m glad someone finally made them. Thanks!

Was initially a bit skeptical about these pedals as they aren’t cheap. Having now tried them I’d say they’re worth every penny simply for the peace of mind they offer that you can take your foot out easily, whatever position your foot is in! Plus, your foot is nice and secure on the pedal and won’t slip off, as with flat pedals. I did try cleats a few years ago. I had a few of the seemingly obligatory ‘Del Boy’ sideways topples at first, but even afterwards found I was not enjoying my rides. Highly recommended.

Postage was amazing and they arrived only a few days after I purchased them. Great packaging and instructions. The pedals were easy to fit to my bike. I felt very comfortable at junctions as I could just lift my foot up and straight out.. they were fabulous on the hill climbs too. I would recommend the Bythlon clipless system if you’ve been unsuccessful in using cleats these are the pedal for you!
